A semi-truck carrying produce crashed and spilled over 100 gallons of fuel along an on-ramp to Interstate 75 on Wednesday, closing the Ocala area entrance well into the evening.
Ocala Fire Rescue units responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident with possible entrapment at the I-75 north on-ramp at Blitchton Road on Wednesday, January 29, just before 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found a semi-truck filled with produce that had overturned.
The saddle tank on the vehicle was punctured and the vehicle’s sole occupant had self-extricated before first responders arrived, according to OFR.
The I-75 on-ramp was immediately blocked off and crews began to address the fuel leak.
The driver was transported to the hospital by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel.
According to OFR, crews used absorbent materials and sealing putty to contain an estimated 100 gallons of fuel spilled.
A class D wrecker was also requested to assist with lifting the semi-truck off its side.
The I-75 ramp remained closed well into the evening, with OFR advising residents to avoid the area through 7 p.m.
