A new Mexican restaurant is transforming a location that has changed hands several times over the years.
La Catrina Cocina Mexicana is currently renovating the space at 303 SE 17th Street, Unit 315, within the Churchill Square shopping plaza.
According to Marion County property records, the business applied for a permit to remodel the space. A permit for interior renovations was issued in August.
Property records show that the site is owned by GC Real Estate Investments LP, and that the renovations are being handled by Crystal River-based Tim Pagel Construction LLC.
The restaurant takes over a space that has had multiple tenants over the years, including The Egg & I and Taylor’s.
The plaza, which is located just south of downtown Ocala, has also seen multiple businesses open or reopen their doors over the past year.
That includes Albelo’s Sandwich Shop and Publix, which reopened after extensive remodeling.
La Catrina is also one of several Mexican restaurants that have opened in Ocala over the past two years, including Casita Luna, Antojitos 352, and Cantina Tex-Mex & Tequila Bar, which will celebrate its second anniversary on December 2.
