A woman was hospitalized on Monday evening after her SUV was involved in a three-vehicle crash in Belleview.
Shortly after 8 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units in south Marion County were dispatched to the 10100 block of U.S. Highway 441 in reference to an accident involving a semi-truck, SUV, and Jeep. Multiple 911 callers reported that the driver of the SUV was entrapped, according to MCFR.
At around 8:05 p.m., several MCFR units arrived on scene and observed that the accident had occurred in front of the Taco Bell in Belleview.
MCFR stated that the drivers of the semi-truck and Jeep had exited their vehicles prior to the arrival of firefighters and paramedics. The female driver of the SUV was pinned between her vehicle and the semi-truck.
In addition, a small amount of diesel fuel was leaking from the semi-truck.
Additional MCFR units soon arrived on scene, and crews began freeing the SUV’s driver from the wreckage.
Approximately 10 minutes later, the SUV’s doors were removed, and the driver was extricated and transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert.
HAZMAT technicians quickly mitigated the small diesel fuel leak.
The southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441, which were briefly blocked following the crash, reopened at 8:36 p.m.
No further details were provided by Marion County Fire Rescue.
The Belleview Police Department is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
