Ocala officials will host a public workshop on Tuesday to discuss the next fiscal year’s budget, which will top $1 billion.

The Ocala City Council will host a preliminary budget work session at Ocala City Hall (110 SE Watula Avenue) at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13.

The city’s proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year is $1,063,605,182, with a general fund of $172,849,452.

The 6.6177 millage rate, which was set last month, should yield approximately $48,971,562 in ad valorem revenue, which is $4.6 million more than the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

On Tuesday, Budget Director Tammi Haslam will present information about the fire assessment for the upcoming fiscal year, as well as details on enterprise funds like the city’s airport fund, electric fund, fiber network fund, sanitation fund, water resources fund, and golf fund.

Haslam will also provide details on the nearly $65 million that will be spent on 58 capital improvement projects for the upcoming fiscal year.

Next month, the budget will be read into public record at the Ocala City Council meeting on September 3. There will be a second and final reading during a special council meeting on September 11.
