A 12-year-old girl sustained serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon after she was struck by a pickup truck while walking along a roadway in Marion County.

The crash occurred shortly after 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, near the intersection of SE 36th Avenue and SE 107th Place in Belleview.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 12-year-old girl was walking southbound on the east shoulder of SE 36th Avenue (County Road 467), south of the SE 107th Place intersection.

A pickup truck was heading northbound on SE 36th Avenue when, for reasons that are unknown, it veered onto the shoulder. A section of the vehicle then proceeded to strike the girl.

After the collision, the pickup truck fled northbound on SE 36th Avenue.

The girl was transported to a local hospital for treatment of “non-life-threatening injuries.”

An FHP trooper noted in the report that witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as a white four-door pickup truck that was towing a utility trailer.
