To the Editor:

I moved here 20 years ago to raise and sell horses. I made that my living. I moved to Ocala for the beautiful land, horse shows, and because it was a quiet town.

Wow, what a mess it has become.

I think the county needs to slow down a bit. Marion Oaks has hundred of empty lots to build on. Why cut up the beautiful farms and start again when there are vacant properties in the middle of subdivisions that can be built on first?

Secondly, make the developers build proper roads before one lot can be cleared. If they want it, they can build a road first. They have money for everything else.

Also, protect our trees. They are here to clean the air. If we strip them away, then we can become like Miami, Los Angeles, or another smog city.

And then there is the mini farm. Can you say Wellington? Let’s keep it at 10 acres minimum. I would say 20 acres, but that won’t fly. At least 10 acres can keep some sort of “farm” feel.

There are so many vacant buildings that can be torn down or repurposed with that old town feel for coffee shops and restaurants.

Why not keep that look of old Ocala. Isn’t that why people flock here?
